Anthony Wayne Alumni Association
Scholarship Summary
(Scholarships will be paid to universities or colleges bursar offices once a student college ID number has been provided to AWAA treasurer with all relevant information.)
SCHOLARSHIPS:

1. “Generals” Scholarships – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – 6 @ – $1000.00 each
-funded by 50/50 sales, memberships, donations, and other fund-raisers.

2. Les Disher Agricultural Science Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(Must be entering a field related to agriculture.)
-funded by Mrs. Doris Disher

3. Fred Dais Future Educator Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(Must be entering the field of teaching.)
-funded by Mr. Fred Dais (A.W. ’60)

4. Patrick Short Skilled Trades Scholarship – GPA required: 75% or 2.5 – $1000.00
(Must be entering a trade school or internship program. Payout as expenses are incurred.)
-funded by Mr. Patrick Short (A.W. ’72)

5. Randee DeBolt Masciola Nursing/Public Health Scholarship – GPA required: 88% or 3.5 – $1000.00
(Female athlete, one or more varsity sports, attending an Ohio school in the field of nursing or public health.)
-partially funded by Ms. Randee DeBolt Masciola (A.W. ’91)

6. Military Dependent Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(Must be a dependent of a current guard, reserve, active-duty personnel, or veteran. A copy of Form DD 214 and current military I.D. (if valid) is required – these will be kept confidential.)
-partially funded by Dr. Brad Contat (AW Local Schools, Human Resources Director and U.S. Army veteran) and other area veterans.

7. Plymale Family Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(Applicant must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, coach, or advisor.)
-funded by the Plymale family in honor of their parents, Charles and Rachel Plymale.

8. History Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(For students who enjoy actively studying history and using their historical knowledge to become participants in the civic lives of their communities.) Must include an essay answering this question: “Which historical event during your lifetime do you believe will have the largest influence upon you and the United States and why?”
-funded by the Waterville Historical Society in partnership with the AW Alumni Association.

9. Jim Rider Band Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(For a senior band member who is dedicated, enthusiastic, and hard working. Attend a two-year or four-year institution. Do not have to be studying music. Must enclose a written recommendation by band director (head or assistant) or a school counselor.)
-funded by friends of Jim Rider (A.W. ’72)

10. Don Ondrus Math Educator Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(Attend a four-year college/university to become a math teacher. Must enclose a written recommendation from high school math teacher or school counselor.)
-funded by Mr. and Mrs. Don Ondrus (AWHS faculty 1970-2007)

11. Art/Creative Writing Scholarship – A tribute to Michael Short (A.W. ’68) – GPA
required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(Student expressing an enthusiastic desire to pursue a degree in one of these fields: Art, Visual Art, Creative Writing, Literary Art. Must enclose a copy of work and a written recommendation from a high school Art or Literature teacher, or school counselor.)
-funded by Mr. Patrick Short (A.W. ’72)

12. Matt Keil Community First Service Scholarship – GPA required: 82% or 2.75 – $1000.00
(Seniors who wish to enter a field of study geared toward contributing to their community.)
-funded by friends of Matt Keil, in partnership with the AW Alumni Assoc.

13. Anthony Wayne Art Scholarship to honor the AW Art Dept.– GPA required: 85% or 3.0 – $1000.00
(Needs to be accepted into a university program for an art related career. Must include an essay expressing career ambition and why student desires to pursue an art-related career, and a written recommendation from an AWHS art teacher or counselor.)
-funded by Sue Ladd (AW faculty-retired)

14. Nature’s Nursery Scholarship – GPA required: 2.75 – $1000.00
(Students entering the fields of biology or environmental science.)
Must include an essay answering these two questions: “Why is wildlife important to our community?” and “How can wildlife and humans coexist?”, and a written recommendation from a teacher, administrator or counselor.
Nature’s Nursery to review applications and forward their suggestions to the AWAA for final consideration
-Funded by Natures Nursery in partnership with the AW Alumni Association.

15. AW Regional Chamber Scholarship – GPA required: 2.80 – $1000.00
(Students entering business, finance or entrepreneurship majors)
Must include 1) Written essay topic of “What do you plan to do with your education & where do you see yourself in 5 years.
2.)Have recipient return in a year for an update to AWRCC.
AWRCC to review applications and forward their suggestions to the AWAA for final consideration
– Funded by Anthony Wayne Regional Chamber of Commerce

16. Schaller Family Endowed Scholarship – GPA required: 2.75 – $1500.00
(Students entering Geography, History or Education majors)
Written essay on the topic: “How will this scholarship assist you in your goals for the future and where do you see yourself in 5 years.”
The Schaller family to review applications and forward their suggestions on to the AWAA for final consideration
– Funded by Don Schaller (A.W. ’57) & Schaller Family

(In conjunction with the Waterville Historical Society. For students who enjoy, actively study history,
and use their historical knowledge to become participants in the civic lives of their communities)

Please read the following information and ensure you meet all of the eligibility criteria before completing this application.

The Anthony Wayne Alumni Association provides several $1,000 one-time, non-renewable scholarships. Each scholarship is awarded on the basis of student achievement. The process may involve consideration of financial need, academic and athletic achievement, and demonstrated volunteer commitment. Scholarships are awarded based on committee review recommendations. The scholarship may be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for coursework at an accredited college, university, or trade school in the United States.

  • Be enrolled as a senior and current student at Anthony Wayne High School, Penta Career Center, or home-schooled and residing in the Anthony Wayne district.
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Must be planning to enroll in a two or four-year college/university or trade school in the fall of 2023 as a full time, degree/certification seeking, first year student. Fields can include: agriculture, nursing, technology public safety, electrical, pipefitting, etc. This is not an inclusive list of career choices. All other career options will be considered as well.
  • Demonstrated volunteer commitment of time in the school and/or community.
  • Have met a minimum cumulative grade of either 88%/3.5 GPA, 82%/2.75 GPA or 75%/2.5 GPA. (Depending on the scholarship for which you are applying.)
  • Be available for a possible interview.
  • Complete and submit the application by the deadline date of March 22, 2024 at 11:59 pm.
